Pros and Cons of Online Learning
By Tevel Bober-Tsafrir
In schools around the world, many students have been infected with coronavirus and forced to go virtual. With the omicron here, students now more than ever are using platforms such as Zoom and Google Meets to learn. But is it all bad? Some people think that there are some good things about online learning.
Online classes mean that you don’t have to get up early to eat breakfast and go to school. One fifth-grader who has had the experience of virtual learning says, “I feel very happy that I get to wake up late in online learning… I like sleeping late and hate getting up early.” Of course, there’s also that bonus that you can sit on a comfy sofa instead of a hard chair while you’re learning.
While these points certainly made life easier, online learning can also be hard. Students learning virtually can’t participate as much in class discussions and activities. In addition, every worksheet and assignment has to be done on a device, which might not always load or be problematic in cases such as low internet. There are also more distractions in homes that could prevent students from completing assignments on time.
