Summarising

Teachers sometimes underestimate how powerful yet challenging summarising, finding the main idea of a text, can be for pupils.

With explicit instruction, pupils can learn to summarise effectively using two formats:

• the summary sentence.

• Single Paragraph Outline (SPO).
