Subject Content:
Knowledge organisers of the key topics.
Each Unit covers a range of topics that will assess knowledge and understanding of the representation of aspects such as gender, stereotypes and narrative in relation to any of the media forms studied – e.g. Unit 1 is about advertising, video games, newspaper events and magazines, plus radio, music videos and social media. Unit 2 is about Television in Wales, and the Hollywood film industry such as Marvel. There will be extended answer exam questions about theories, media industries, audience types, with focus on media specific language and representation through codes and conventions.
Unit 1: Exploring the Media (Exam 1: 30% of qualification).
Section A: Representations – advertising, video games and newspapers
Section B: Music
Unit 2: Understanding Television and Film (Exam 2: 30% of qualification).
Section A: Wales on Television
Section B: Contemporary Hollywood Film
Unit 3: Creating Media - Non-exam assessment (Coursework: 40% of qualification). A media production, including individual research and planning, created in response to a choice of briefs set by WJEC, and applying knowledge and understanding of key concepts. • An individual reflective analysis of the production.
