WJEC GCSE English Language and Literature
All Year 10 students will begin studying towards the Double Award.
Some students will move to Single Award during Year 11.
Unit Content
Unit 1: Examination (Double Award 15%; Single Award 30%)
Section A: Students will answer questions focused on one anthology poem and one thematically linked unseen poem.
Section B: Students will write one piece of creative literary or non-fiction writing.
Unit 2: Non Examination Assessment (Double Award 10%; Single Award 20%)
Task A: Students will write an essay on the theme of Belonging focused on ‘Lord of the Flies’ by William Golding.
Task B: Students will deliver an Individual Researched Presentation on the theme of Belonging.
Unit 3: Non Examination Assessment (Double Award 10%; Single Award 20%)
Task A: Students will participate in a group discussion focused on thematically linked texts from the non-fiction anthology.
Task B: Students will write a creative non-fiction piece of writing linked to the texts they will study for Task A.
Unit 4: Examination (Double Award 20%; Single Award 30%)
Section A: Students will answer questions focused on ‘An Inspector Calls’ by J. B. Priestley.
Section B: Students will write one piece of creative literary writing.
Unit 5: Non Examination Assessment (Double Award 20%)
Task A: Students will write an essay on the theme of Continuity and Change focused on ‘Macbeth’ by William Shakespeare.
Task B: Students will participate in a paired discussion focused on one of the anthology poems and an additional thematically linked poem.
Unit 6: Examination (Double Award 25%)
Section A: Students will answer questions focused on texts from the non-fiction anthology and one thematically linked text.
Section B: Students will write one piece of non-fiction writing.
