Recruiting Assessors for HLTA Status
We are seeking practitioners to join the team involved in the Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA) Assessment Programme on behalf of Welsh Government.
As an assessor, you will be responsible for undertaking assessments of candidates who have completed the Aspiring HLTA programme and who are going forward for HLTA status assessment.

Newly Appointed Teaching Assistant Induction Programme
Delivery method
A National Development Programme delivered by distance learning with supported seminar activities.
Duration
1 Term
Target Audience
People new to the role of Teaching Assistant with a developing knowledge and understanding of their role and responsibilities.
Phase
All schools and settings.
Language of Delivery
All activities undertaken as will be delivered in Welsh, English or bilingually.

A combination of activities, self-directed study, online support and webinars.

National Practicing Teaching Assistant Development Programme
Delivery method
A National Development Programme delivered by full day sessions.
Duration
2 Days (nonconsecutive)
Target Audience
For teaching assistants who have been in post for at least three to five years and who would welcome an update on the changing context of the profession.
Phase
All schools and settings.
Language of Delivery
All activities undertaken as will be delivered in Welsh, English or bilingually.
Program format.
A combination of activities, self-directed study, support, reflection and networking
Program outline.
The programme will provide information to do with the professional standards, current relevant strategies to support their practices and a range of ideas and strategies to inspire professionalism back in school.

Aspiring HLTA Development Programme
Delivery method
A National Development Programme delivered by full day sessions.
Duration
2 Terms
Target Audience
This Aspiring HLTA Programme is to support the most experienced Teaching Assistants who wish to further develop their skills and identify their readiness for HLTA Assessment.
Phase
All schools and settings.
Language of Delivery
All activities undertaken as will be delivered in Welsh, English or bilingually.
Program format.
o Securing the support of your headteacher to apply for the Aspiring HLTA programme
o Attend all four development days of the programme
o Reflecting on practice, recording evidence against the standards and recording as Professional Learning Reflections (PLR)

National HLTA Assessment Model
Delivery method
National Assessment Programme to assess candidates for the award of HLTA Status.

1 term
Target Audience
The HLTA Assessment Programme is specifically for practitioners who have completed the Aspiring HLTA programme are now believe they are ready to be assessed for HLTA status.

All schools and settings
Language of Delivery
All activities undertaken as part of this programme will be delivered in Welsh, English or bilingually.
Program format.
Submission of evidence prepared during the Aspiring HLTA programme and assessment during a school visit by a registered HLTA Assessor.
Program outline.
Successful applicants who are endorsed following completion of the Aspiring HLTA programme will be allocated an Assessor who will complete the national HLTA Assessment during the specified assessment cycle.

Access to the national application process is provided to participants during the Aspiring HLTA Programme .
Specialised Teaching Assistant Opportunities
Delivery method
All National Development Programmes are delivered, facilitated and supported by school leaders across the system. Opportunities to fulfil these roles are available to school based practitioners. Training and release costs are provided for these roles.
Duration
These opportunities are of varied duration dependent upon the role.
Target Audience
Practitioners who wish to further develop their existing skills and practice in roles supporting the system beyond their own school. Opportunities are available to practitioners with varied levels of expertise.
Phase
All schools and settings.
Language of Delivery
All activities undertaken as will be delivered in Welsh, English or bilingually.
Program format.
System Leaders will receive training for the specific role which they will undertake.
