3 hour training on the BLOOM programme which has been developed by Mental Health UK and is aimed at 14-18 year olds to help them develop the tools and knowledge they need in order to manage their own mental health through life’s transitions. The BLOOM programme has been designed for two distinct age groups: 14-16 year olds and 17-18 year olds. Mental Health UK require 3 members of staff per school to undertake the training who will then be supported to deliver an 8 week programme to 2 cohorts of learners. ERW will provide supply costs @£90

Programme outline
Part 1 outlines the basic facts about the nature of anxiety and explains that anxiety is a normal emotional reaction to any circumstances that appear to be a threat in any way. Professor Frude explains how anxiety is also a personality dimension which varies from person to person. People who have experienced early trauma are more prone to be anxious. He then sets the talk in the current context and outlines the nature of anxiety and considers how it has been affected by the Covid 19 pandemic.
In part 2 Professor Frude discusses how the classroom environment and the behavior of teachers can help to prevent and alleviate children’s anxiety. He outlines what he considers to be the key knowledge and skills children and young people can be taught to help them understand and manage their anxiety. Professor Frude provides simple and effective strategies that children and young people can use on a daily basis to help themselves manage anxiety

This will include sessions on (e.g.) top tips for newly qualified teachers; teaching learning behaviours and setting high expectations for our most disadvantaged learners.
An equity-based ethos - 23rd November 2020
This module will focus on ‘hearts and minds’ encouraging staff to reflect on their own beliefs and how this impacts on their actions, so that work being undertaken in school is carried out with the most disadvantaged learner in mind.
Assessing the poorest child - 25th January 2021
The sessions here will include how lesson planning and curriculum planning impacts on the poorest learners. It will examine how to avoid assessments further disadvantaging the poorest learners
Hard to reach schools? - 22nd February 2021
Here we will look at the school as part of the community, including the challenges of attendance and parental engagement for the poorest families.
Moving on and Moving up - 10th May 2021
This theme will allow us to deliver sessions on careers-related learning, transition (in school and between schools) and the additional support that a disadvantaged learner may need.
Taking the REINs; Reflection, Evaluation, Impact, Next Steps - 28th June 2021
In the final module, we will run sessions to enable all practitioners to reflect on their successes during the academic year and help them to plan the best ways to ensure that the positive differences made for disadvantaged learners become embedded in the school.

ARCHIVE - Empathy Lab: Enabling Schools to Take Their First Empathy Step

ERW is partnering with EmpathyLab to offer first-step training sessions in how to build young people’s empathy, literacy and social activism through a more systematic use of high-quality literature. Utilising EmpathyLab’s tried and tested approach of teaching empathy as a learnable skill, and supporting reading to build real-life empathy skills we are offering up to 100 schools the opportunity to be part of this exciting project between February and June 2021.
The programme will build staff understanding of how empathy-focused education develops the feeling of safety that vulnerable children need in order to learn, and explore texts with themes such as refugees and food poverty. The training lays the foundations for schools’ empathy education strategies, developing understanding and practical actions plans.
Schools taking part in the project will need to attend the two x two hour training sessions scheduled for February 5th and March 5th 2021 and be in a position to develop and integrate empathy as part of their ongoing school development journey.
