Live Lessons @ Dwr y Felin

At Dwr y Felin for you to access online lessons you will need to use Microsoft Teams. To get the best experience we recommend downloading the applications on the device that you are using because it will give you the best experience possible whilst in live streamed lessons. 

We also recommend that you connect any mobile devices that you use to a WiFi network so that you have a stable connection and don't go eating up all of your mobile data. 

Pupil Live Lesson Guidance & Expectations

Procedures for Live Lesson

1.  There will be no one-to-one live-streaming lessons with learners.

2.  Live Lessons will be delivered, for an appropriate length of time (15 minutes is the recommended time for a Live lesson), through HWB using Microsoft Teams.

3.  Teachers will calendar the session at least the day before the timetabled lesson.

4.  Live Lessons will be scheduled to mirror teaching timetables; Live Lessons are not full classroom lessons.

5.  Staff will make all pupils an ‘attendee’ for the Live Lesson. (Consent Required – Microsoft Forms)

6.  Live Lessons will take place from a school device in a suitable location which maintains safeguarding for all.

7.  Live Lessons are part of the blended learning provision, this approach will be used when appropriate in the delivery of the curriculum.

8.  All resources for the Live Lesson will be uploaded on Teams prior to the lesson and stored in their assignments or files, in order to activate prior learning.

9.  Staff will start admitting pupils just before the start of the Live Lesson.

10.  The lesson will be a maximum of 15 minutes teacher-led introduction. Staff will expect pupils to undertake extended activities and then submit their work through Microsoft Teams assignments. This section of the lesson will not be Live.

11.  Staff will make pupils aware that the session will be recorded and start recording as soon as they join the meeting. Recordings will be taken in every lesson for safeguarding of both pupils and staff.

12.  Teachers will notify of changes to Live Lesson arrangements through Microsoft Teams.

Prior to Live Lesson - Pupils

1.      Pupils must check their Teams Calendar at 8:30am every morning to confirm their Live Lessons for the day.

2.      Pupils must access the resources provided by the class teacher, via Microsoft Teams (This will be communicated through the Teams channel).

3.      Pupils need to make sure that all necessary technology (Laptop, iPad, Chromebook etc.) are fully charged and that they have the correct chargers or adaptors to hand.

4.      Pupils need to find a quiet space for their Live Lessons.

5.      Pupils must have all school equipment and books available at the start of the Live Lesson.

6.      Pupils must arrive at the Live Lesson 2 minutes before the start time.

7.      Pupils must arrive to the lesson with their cameras on and their microphone on mute.

During Live Lesson

1. Staff will discuss the roles and responsibilities with learners at the outset of each lesson.

2. All communications during Live Lessons are to be undertake via either the microphone or chat tool. 

3. Pupils must use the ‘hands up’ tool and wait to be invited to contribute to the class discussion by the teacher. Pupils must take their raised hand tool down once they have spoken.

4. Pupils should seek to contribute to the lesson in a positive manner.

5. Pupils who disrupt a Live Lesson will be removed from the session by the teacher.

6. Pupils must not share any images or materials of the lesson with anybody. 

End of Live Lesson

1.  Pupils cannot leave a Live Lesson until instructed by the class teacher.

2.  Teachers will prevent a one-to-one situation at the end of an online class by disconnecting all participants from Teams at the close of the lesson.

At the start of lesson

Camera switched on

Wait to be invited to join the lesson

During the lesson

Communicate in the Live Lesson by either the chat or microphone

Use the hands up tool to indicate the need to communicate

Contribute in a positive manner

Do not share any images or materials of the lesson

At the end of lesson:

Only leave the lesson when instructed by the teacher

Complete all tasks set by the teacher and submit in Teams
