Dwr Y Felin would like to thank parents for supporting the learners of Dwr y Felin during the lockdown period. Your support and commitment to our learners has been invaluable during this time.
We have put together some guides of how to use the HWB platform to support your child through Remote Learning.
If you would like to take a look at some of the work that has been made by the pupils please visit the Remote Learning Gallery.
At Dwr y Felin we are using predominately the Office 365 suite within HWB to facilitate Blended Learning, although our teachers are trying out other web applications such as Flipgrid & Bubbl.us.
Remember that all learners on the HWB platform have access to the Office 365 desktop and mobile applications for free on up to 5 devices. Here is a link to the HWB website which explains how you can download and activate the software on your devices at home.
The Office 365 platform gives users the ability to access their work on a variety of devices. Your child should be able to access their work on their smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop computer and even their games console through the web browser. For ease of use, we do recommend using a device which has a physical mouse and keyboard, though this is not compulsory.
There are wireless keyboards and mice which can connect via Bluetooth to a range of devices to avoid needing to purchase a new device. We recommend checking the compatibility of the keyboard and mouse with the device before purchasing.
All work for the pupils is set through the Teams application in Office 365. The work is set as assignments and are sent to the pupils on Monday morning of each week.
Mr Gravelle has created a handy video guide to show you how to check your child's teams applications for the assignments they are currently assigned and how you can check that the work has been submitted.
When an assignment is marked and returned to pupils they should receive a notification in the Activity tab in Microsoft Teams.
To access the feedback that has been given, you will need to go to the team for the subject you would like to check then click on the assignment tab.
You will then have to click on the completed drop down list and select the assignment you would like to check.
The feedback will be in the top left hand corner of the screen or contained within a rubric (Marking Grid) on the assignment.
To track the progress and engagement of the pupils at Dwr y Felin we use two tools that are available in Microsoft Teams. We use the Grades and Insights features in tandem to try and understand how pupils are engaging with their work on a subject by subject basis.
Grades allows teachers to check if an assignment has been viewed or handed in from a pupil. It also shows the teacher if the work has not been opened at all. If the pupil has been set a quiz in forms to complete the result will be shown to the teacher in the grades dashboard.
Insights is an engagement monitoring tool that was introduced to the teams platform recently. The Insights dashboard allows the teacher to view whether the pupil has opened a team during a day or a period of time. It also has the feature to drill down into the data to check what the pupil has been working on and for how long.
