Reminder that PE is every Wednesday morning.
Bring your reading folder in everyday
Homework gets sent out on a Thursday, but remember to read every day in addition.
It gets very cold in the winter months, please bring a warm coat/gloves/hat to stay warm for our daily outdoor learning!
Being a fluent reader is vital for your child to access the curriculum. Please see below how to support your child's daily reading.
Your child will take part in our 110 Club and Big Maths challenges every week. If your child completes their 110 club level in 5 minutes they can move onto the next level. We will send home their challenges every week so they can practice their mistakes at home.
Every Thursday we will send home a homework task to complete at home in order to enrich your child's learning in school. You can complete these tasks on your child's Hwb (J2e) or in your child's research book.
Reading daily is one of the most vital tasks for you to do to help your child learn. Your child has a reading folder for their reading book and record which we check daily. Every time your child reads at home they earn a stamp in the back of their reading record, once they have reached their reading goal they will earn a prize. Please remember to send your child's reading folder in everyday.
You can also access the free Oxford Owls online library by clicking here www.oxfordowl.co.uk/login?active-tab=students and using our log in details to the right.
In Year 2 we use house points as a rewards system.
Each child is allocated into one of the school's houses: Angle, Barafundle, Broad Haven or Freshwater East.
Children can receive positive house points for actions such as persistence, good effort, good work, representing the school, showing kindness and much more.
Alternatively, if a child demonstrates negative behaviour such as hurting others, not following instructions, being disrespectful, damaging school property or anything along those lines, they will receive a negative house point.
House points are rewarded with a special treat on a Friday.
Parents can have alerts to their phones about their children's house points via the app - please contact main reception if you need help setting this up.
We also follow a Behaviour Charter created by the children which follows children's rights from Rights Respecting Schools. The children can see their rights, their responsibility to protect those rights and consequences if those rights are broken.
As part of the New Curriculum for Wales, our school held a competition to design a character for each of the four purposes. Then we voted for our favourite character names and identified key words to show what they mean (What their super powers are!) Now these characters are our mascots for learning in everything we do!
