Communal, welcoming, inclusive and friendly are among the best adjectives to describe the Sixth Form at Ysgol y Strade. We are very proud of our Sixth Form students who join us before they embark on their next stage in life. The Sixth Form is a unique privilege, not only to thrive academically but to develop as an individual who is ready to contribute fully towards the school and wider community.


The Sixth Form offers a unique opportunity to continue with education in a supportive, nurturing and Welsh environment. Our students are encouraged to reach their full potential through various traditional and vocational subjects in a structured and safe environment. There is a range of different subjects offered by our departments, which means that each student's path will be suitable and relevant to them.


As a statutory subject in the Sixth Form, the Welsh Baccalaureate offers many opportunities for students to develop skills that are attractive to all further education establishment or career path.


Our academic provision is rich and as a result our A Level results are amongst the highest in the County every year. It is a pleasure to see many of our students gaining access to various university courses throughout the United Kingdom including Oxbridge and Russel Group institutions.


Also, we are very fortunate to be able to offer a specific area of ​​the school only for Sixth Form use; there is the Lounge for socialising and the study room with specific resources such as digital devices that support them to study independently.

The Sixth Form comes with a number of advantages such as;

  • Bilingual students are more capable than those who only have one language (research over the years has proven this)

  • The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol offers grants of up to £3,000 to continue studying through the medium of Welsh at University.

It gives me great pleasure to present you with our Sixth Form Prospectus, an indication that you have reached an important milestone in your education.


This is an exciting time for you with many important decisions to make and a wide range of opportunities available. We are immensely proud of our Sixth Form at Y Strade, not just for achieving excellent A level results but also for ensuring our school is a vibrant and happy community.


This prospectus aims to outline the reasons why our Sixth Form is the very best place for you to continue your education and the choice of individual courses is greater than ever.


During your time in our Sixth Form you will continue to receive the very best pastoral and academic support possible, making your studies both challenging and worthwhile. Your studies at Y Strade will prepare you thoroughly for life at University or employment. You will also have the opportunity to socialise and develop amongst friends and to reap the benefits of a wealth of activities

outside the classroom.


Even more significantly, you can continue with your Welsh medium studies and profit from contributing to a bilingual community in Llanelli and beyond.

Head of Sixth Form Message - Miss Rachel Williams

Without a doubt, the academic element is very important to us as a school, but just as important is the care and pastoral support the learners receive throughout their time at Ysgol y Strade.


This is an aspect that certainly continues and is an integral part of our Sixth Form provision. It is a great pleasure to be Head of the Sixth Form and to see students develop into young, mature adults during this special period in their life's. In addition, there is a deputy head of the Sixth Form who reinforces our academic expectations prioritising well-being and maintaining pastoral care of the highest standard.


I thoroughly look forward to welcoming you back to continue your education in the Sixth Form and I hope you enjoy every opportunity offered by the school.
