Introduction

The Pearson BTEC Level National Extended Certificate in Uniform Protected Services focuses on the role of the protected services, which includes: The Police Service, The Fire and Rescue Service, The Armed Forces and The Prison Service. The main objective of the course is to provide progression into higher education and employment in the protected services or similar fields. The qualification is the equivalent to an A Level and provides a coherent presentation to the protective services. The course takes two years to complete.

Year 12

Unit 2 โ€“ Behaviour and Discipline in the UPS (120 GLH) โ€“ Written exam (2hrs)

Learners investigate factors that can affect behaviour and their impact on the discipline of individuals and groups in the Uniformed Protective Services.


Unit 5 - Teamwork Leadership and Communication in the UPS (120 GLD)

In this unit we collaborate with the British Army and other organisations. Learners study the dynamics of team building and team leadership, participate in team-building activities, and learn the methods of communication used by the uniformed protective services.

Year 13

Unit 10 โ€“ Skills for outdoor Activities and the UPS (60 GLH)

Learners develop the underpinning skills and knowledge relevant to best practice and managing risk when participating in outdoor activities. Students will have the opportunity to take part in various outdoor activities inc Canoeing/Kayaking/abseiling/hill walking/paddleboarding/problem solving.

Unit 19 โ€“ Professional Development in the UPS (60 GLH)

Learners gain the knowledge needed for different career pathways in the uniformed protective services. Learners must complete a personal skills audit, develop a career action plan and practise interview skills. In this unit we collaborate with the Royal Air Force and other organisations


Career Prospects

This qualification supports learnersโ€™ applications for a range of roles in the Protected Services, including:

  • The Police

  • The Ambulance Service

  • The Royal British Army / The Royal Air Force / The Royal Navy

  • The Fire and Rescue Service

Entry Requirements

Individual consideration will be given to each learner, but it would be beneficial if they were interested in a career in the Protective Services.
