Introduction

Not all destinations are alike, not everyone travels for the same reasons. How are tourism destinations marketed? What are appropriate marketing materials? What about employment opportunities and trends? What are the external pressures to the industry? How can areas respond to terrorist incidents or epidemics? How are the different sectors responding to the challenges of the future?

Tourism is one of the largest global industries in terms of revenue and employment. The industry is essential to the Welsh economy generating billions in Gross Value Added and is also economically vital to many other sectors.

This course is designed to provide learners with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills associated with the organisations and activities within the different sectors of the tourism industry by combining elements of Business Studies, Retail Business and Geography.

A range of essential and higher-level skills are developed including numeracy, research, data analysis, critical thinking, planning and organisation, digital and personal effectiveness throughout the course. These skills are transferable and beneficial to higher courses and/or employment.

This course will include fieldwork opportunities outside the classroom.
