Through the following themes you will study grammar and develop your translation, reading, speaking and writing skills in the target language. In year 12 you will also get the opportunity to study a Spanish film and a novel in year 13.

Advance Subsidiary (AS)

Year 12


Unit 1 - 12%

Arguing a point of view

Discussion on a specific topic.

Oral Examination with a member of the department 12 -15 minutes


Unit 2 - 28%

External Examination 2 hours 30 minutes

Advanced Level (A2)

Year 13


Unit 3 - 18%

(a) Present an independent research project (2 minutes)

(b) Discussion on the content of the independent research project

(9-10 minutes)

Oral Examination with a member of the department 15 -20 minutes


Unit 4 - 30%

Written exam: Listening, reading and translating

External Examination 1 hour 45 minutes


Unit 5 - 12%

Critical response in writing (on set book)

External Examination 1 hour 30 minutes

Although each student will be considered on an individual basis for entry onto the course it would be beneficial to have a C grade in Spanish at GCSE.
