Introduction
The aim of the Religious Studies course is to encourage pupils to develop their interest in studying religion thoroughly, and to connect this with the wider world.
There will be an opportunity for pupils to consider their values, their views and their attitudes towards religion and life experiences. Through their study of religion, they will develop skills of reflection, investigation, response, interpretation and evaluation. The subject develops an understanding of morals, beliefs and culture, which is useful for a variety of careers.
Course Content
Advanced Subsidiry (AS)
Year 12
Unit 1 - 'Introduction to Buddhism'
Includes a study of the Buddha's life, the main beliefs and some central practices.
Unit 2 - 'Introduction to Religion, Ethics and the Philosophy of Religion'
Ethics includes the study of various judgments and their application to issues such as euthanasia, homosexuality, polygamy, nuclear weapons and Philosophy of Religion including advantages such as strategies for and against the existence of God who suffered religious.
'Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion' which includes more societies for and against the existence of God and religious experience.
Advanced Level (U2)
Year 13
Uned 3, 4, 5
The ADVANCED course is a further study of the year 12 units;
AS β 'Study of Buddhism'
Religion and Ethics
Philosophy of Religion.
Career Prospects
University Degree in Religious Studies or related subjects.
Careers such as Medicine, Law, Police.
Education, e.g. teaching.
The Media and Journalism.
Social Work.
Entry Requirements
An 'A' or 'B' grade in the GCSE Religious Studies course. Consideration is sometimes given to individuals who have obtained a 'C' grade.
