AS/A Level Music offers a broad, flexible and coherent course of study which encourages learners to take an active part in the process of studying music.
It offers learners the opportunity to study music in a combined way where the skills of performance, composition and evaluation reinforce knowledge and understanding of musical elements, language and contexts.
UNIT 1: Performance (12%)
Perform at least 2 contrasting pieces
One solo and one as part of an ensemble

UNIT 2: Composing (12%)
Two contrasting pieces
One of which must be in response of a brief set by WJEC and the other, a free composition.

UNIT 3: Appraising (16%)
   Â
Written examination (external assessment)
Choose two areas of study -
Western Classical Tradition
either:
Symphony no.103, Haydn
or
Requiem, Mozart
And either
Rock and Pop
or
Musical Theatre
or
Jazz
UNIT 4: Performance 22%/14%
Perform 2/3 contrasting pieces

2/3 contrasting pieces

The possibilities are endless. Music will enable you to demonstrate many skills which employers, colleges and universities will be looking for. It can also give you opportunities to travel, meet people and get the most out of life. Music broadens experiences, develops imagination, fosters creativity and promotes personal and social development.
Although individual consideration will be given to each learner, it would be beneficial if they had 5 GCSEs (A*-C) or better to include grade C in Music
