IntroductionÂ
Our AS/A Level History encourages the integrated study of history. Learners can study history on many scales and dimensions, including period, detailed and broad. Learners are encouraged to acquire a wide range of historical knowledge and a full range of skills including;
Develop analysis and expression skills.
Understand that there are different interpretations in history.
Use and question evidence critically.
Cultivate the art of presenting a balanced argument on paper.
Essential to understanding the world we live in.

Year 12
Unit 1 - (20%)
Politics, Protest and Reform, England and Wales 1780—1880
The challenges to the objectives, urban and rural, social and economic protests up to the 1850s and leadership and their policies.
Written Examination 1 hour 30 minutes
Unit 2 - (20%)
The Dispute of the American Republic c.1840 — 1877
War, Sectarian Religions and the Road to Civil War c.1840 — 1861.

Social Change and Reform in England and Wales c.1890-1990
The impact of the two world wars, The importance of popular culture, leisure and entertainment, Labor and Thatcher Governments.

Career Prospects
Studying history can lead to a great number of excellent careers as diverse as the media, government, heritage organisations, conservation, teaching, archives, museums and galleries, the police and law.
Entry Requirements
If you are considering studying History for A Level, then you should aim for at least a grade B at GCSE, although we do accept students who have not studied History for GCSE. You will need the ability to express yourself clearly both on paper and orally. A mature attitude to work is essential since you will be expected to read around the subject and work independently between lessons.
