Unit 3 - Poetry Pre-1900 and Unseen Poetry – 20%
Critical analysis of one poem
Compare two unseen poems
Examination – 2 hours 20%
Unit 4 - Shakespeare
Analyse an extract from the play
Essay question based on the play as a whole
Examination - 2 hours 20%
Unit 5 - Prose Study – Non-examination assessment
Compare a theme within two texts: one pre-2000, one post-2000
One 2,500 – 3,500 essay 20%

Studying GCSE Language and Literature gives a very good foundation. It is essential that pupils are prepared to read challenging texts and to read widely and independently. Students are expected to have achieved a grade B GCSE.
