Introduction

AS/Advanced Design and Technology provides a unique opportunity in the curriculum for learners to identify and solve real problems by designing and making products or systems.

Design and Technology is an inspiring, precise and practical subject. This specification encourages learners to use creativity and imagination when using design processes to develop and adapt designs. Learners will also design and make prototypes that solve real-world problems.

Career Prospects

This specification provides a suitable foundation for studying design and technology or a related field by following a range of higher education courses or progressing to the next level of vocational qualifications. Th course can also lead directly to employment such as Graphic Design, Illustrator, Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanical or Architecture.

Entry Requirements

Although individual consideration will be given to each learner, it would be beneficial if they had a C grade from any Design and Technology course at GCSE level. This specification builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills acquired during GCSE.
