Introduction

AS and A Level in Art and Design offer interesting and innovative creative learning experiences. The practice of art, craft and design is meaningfully combined with theoretical knowledge and understanding.


The course gives the learners opportunities to develop a broad base of critical, practical and theoretical skills in the AS. This offers learners a holistic understanding of a variety of exercises and contexts in the fields of art, craft and visual design which they specialise in at A level.

Advanced Subsidiary (AS)

Year 12


Personal Creative Inquiry, 40% (160 marks)

Advanced Level (A2)

Year 13


Personal Inquiry - 36% (160 marks)


Supervised assignment - 24% (100 marks).


The coursework involves making a portfolio of work based on a theme that interests the individual.


For the exam, the pupils will have the opportunity to choose a question from an exam paper that has been placed externally. They will have a preparation period before completing the work under exam conditions.


Career Prospects

Art gives pupils the opportunity to express ideas, use their imagination and creative ability as well as learn new skills. It is an essential foundation for further studies at University which can lead to various jobs in this field.

Entry Requirements

Although individual consideration will be given to each learner, it would be beneficial if they have studied the course to GCSE standard and have 5 GCSE grades (A*-C).
