Here at Bryn Bach Primary, we are extremely passionate about our purpose-led curriculum. The four purposes and pupil voice are at the heart of our planning and we strive to provide all of our pupils an INCREDIBLE learning journey from the moment they start with us until they leave for secondary school.
We want our young people to be ready for life in the 21st century and ensure that the three cross-curricular competencies are developed through our holistic approach to learning. Our core values: kindness, happiness and hard work ensure that pupil wellbeing is monitored as we know our children will develop to their full potential if they are happy.
We have revised our vision with all stakeholders this academic year.
At Bryn Bach, we are committed to unlocking the potential of EACH and every person in our school community.
Our team are passionate and want to ensure that our exciting, holistic curriculum engages and inspires our pupils: providing a vast range of learning opportunities for all.
We have been working hard to design our curriculum over the past few years. Our curriculum design ensures the three cross-curricular competencies are developed through our classroom topics. Our staff use termly themes to cover as many areas of learning and experience as possible. We are passionate to ensure learning is relevant and adapt our planning accordingly to changes in local, national and global events. Our aim is to provide real-life, authentic opportunities in class.
We want our children to leave Bryn Bach with a broad range of skills to help them to continue developing into INCREDIBLE citizens of Wales and beyond. Our purpose-led curriculum, inspired by pupil voice, ensures engagement, challenge, and that authentic learning experiences are provided.
Wellbeing of our pupils, staff and families is vitally important. We want to ensure that our pupils feel safe when in school and develop to become healthy and confident individuals. Our Relationships Policy includes restorative approaches to behaviour management and ensures those who require additional support with wellbeing continuously have someone with whom they can confide in. Here at Bryn Bach, we are all 'Emotionally Available Adults' and want our children to feel safe during their time with us.
In order for our children to be the best that they can possibly be, it is important that we know them. At Bryn Bach, we have streamlined our assessment schedule, in line with the Assessment Arrangements, to ensure we can personalise learning opportunities for individual learners.
Baseline assessments are completed in our Amazing Acorns learning community. Throughout their time in our Amazing Acorns unit, there will be lots of opportunities for our young people to develop socially, learning through adventure and play and developing the skills and values that will support them as they transition through the school. Our team will be working hard to develop their ability to read, their understanding of phonics and number and social and communication skills through exciting learning opportunities.
Personalised Assessments provided by Welsh Government will be completed by pupils from Year 2 to Year 6 twice a year. STAR reading, spelling and Maths quizzes will form part of our assessment profile for each individual for us to know the journey each pupil is required required to take. We understand that not all children progress and develop at the same time and therefore we want to ensure all of our young pupils are provided with an appropriate 'diet' to individually progress and meet their maximum potential.
Our Bubbles and Missions ideology involves organising classroom into three groups. This provides a class teacher and support staff to work with a smaller group of individuals, challenging pupils, deepening thinking and personalising learning opportunities in a small group teaching setting. These groups are called 'Bubbles'. Pupils who are on a 'Mission' task will complete tasks independently or with peers. Mission boards can be found in every classroom: providing opportunities to develop independence, promote collaborative working and enhance subject knowledge in a range of areas of learning and expertise (AOLEs).
This approach ensures pupils are challenged, stretched and learning is personalised for our young people. Our planning ensures that we continuously build on previous knowledge and experience. We want to encourage our learners to take responsibility for their own learning, promoting problem solving, creativity and critical thinking.
We are extremely fortunate to have incredible school grounds and are continually seeking funding to improve our outdoor learning environment.
Our extensive wildlife area, featuring a pond and forest school area, provide our children with wonderful opportunities to develop their skills outdoors. Research indicates that outdoor learning is beneficial to teacher job satisfaction and pupil wellbeing. Make sure you leave a pair of wellington boots in school, as we want to investigate and learn outdoors come rain or shine!
Our Criw Cymraeg are working hard to achieve our Silver Award for Cymraeg Campus. At Bryn Bach, the teaching of Second Language Welsh continues to be a priority. We want our young people to develop a love for the language of their country.
We are passionate about languages. As a Lead Network School for Modern Foreign Languages, we are continuously promoting a love of language and opportunities for translanguaging. Opportunities to learn French and Spanish are provided for all of our young people.
Bryn Bach Primary School prides itself on being a fully inclusive community for pupils of all abilities, challenges, race, gender, and social origin. A criterion of the school’s success will be its ability to meet a wide and varied range of learning needs. The school also recognises that many pupils throughout their full time education will experience a time when they need targeted support from time to time, a few pupils will require provision which is ‘additional to’ or ‘different from’ the education provision made generally for pupils.
Bryn Bach Primary School is committed to promoting high standards of appropriate achievements and progress for all pupils with additional learning needs:
Pupils with identified additional needs and challenges will be enabled to have full access to their entitlement to a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum. The school will ensure that access to the curriculum includes physical, visual, auditory, emotional, behavioural, social, cognitive, literacy and numeracy access and how to achieve well and make a valued contribution.
To provide provision through universal, universal plus, targeted and specialist support and intervention to overcome barriers to learning for all.
To meet the needs of all pupils with Additional Learning Needs requiring Additional Learning Provision as far as resources will allow at the school and with the support of the LA and outside agencies.
To take a person-centred approach to ensure the wishes, views and opinions of the pupil are captured and considered. Parental engagement forms a critical aspect of the process.
There will be communication and collaboration between all stakeholders, including agencies. Where appropriate a multi-disciplinary approach will be taken to devise additional learning provision and support dispute resolution.
The whole school staff will be jointly responsible for implementing ALN policy and practice.
Parents and carers will be included fully as partners in the decision-making process in providing additional support. Their views and understanding of the pupils’ needs will be taken fully into account.
