Digital resilience is about the need to develop knowledge, skills and strategies so that children and young people can:
manage their online experience safely and responsibly
identify and mitigate risks in order to stay safe online
understand the importance of using reliable sources and use critical thinking skills to identify false and misleading information
ask for help when they need it
learn from their experiences and improve from experience when things go wrong
go from strength to strength and take advantage of the opportunities that the internet offers.
In a digital world where technology is now an integral part of many aspects of our lives, it is essential that we support our children and young people to develop into individuals with solid digital skills.
These standards provide guidance on how schools should future-proof their digital environment to meet the needs of a more digitally focused school curriculum.
They're intended to assist schools to understand, manage and implement their digital environment, by themselves or with their Education Technology Support Partner.
The standards are envisaged as a best practice solution for schools to meet their digital needs. However, it is accepted that schools are operating on limited resources and have to plan for attaining the standards over time.
