We have an inclusive curriculum at The Hundred of Hoo Academy which supports that of the International Baccalaureate, Primary Years Programme (PYP) while still following the National Curriculum.
Our approach to teaching and learning empowers our children to be inquirers, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated and successful learners. It is through inquiry that our children are given the opportunity to develop their voice, choice and take ownership of the learning outcomes.
We have a broad curriculum with a global outlook, and a strong emphasis on developing skills as a long-life learner. The curriculum provides opportunities for our children to be internationally minded where they are encouraged to think for themselves as they begin to consider local and global issues. Therefore, our curriculum is underpinned by the Learner Profile Attributes and designed to develop cross curricular skills that are transferable. Your child will be receiving class chart points and stickers linked to the learner profile. Engage with your child, by asking what learner profile they have displayed in their learning.
Our children are on a learning journey where they develop a love for learning through a growth mindset and are empowered to be responsible, independent and global citizens.
This term, the whole school are inquiring about the transdisciplinary theme of ‘Who We Are’. You can see that each year has their own central idea which personalises the inquiry:
Year R - Friends and families define and shape who we are.
Year 1 - Environment, cultures, and experiences may form who we are.
Year 2 - Communities promote relationships, values and responsibilities to support those living in them.
Year 3 - Humans can be classified according to their differences and similarities.
Year 4 - People's beliefs may influence who we are.
Year 5 - Rights and responsibilities may adapt as we grow and can be dependent upon where we live.
Year 6 - Animals including humans may be adaptive and unique.
Inquiry takes on many forms at Hundred of Hoo and what you can see here are just some of the examples of the inquiry learning that pupils have completed in their own time outside of school. Thank you to all of those pupils for their hard work on these.
Action
It is always great to see our children taking action at home, however big or small. So please remember to share and celebrate action on your Google Classrooms.
