Term 1
Term 1
Welcome Back
It's seems rather odd to be writing 'Welcome Back' in the third week of term one; however, with the recent National Events, we decided to postpone the writing and sending of this bulletin until now.
Since the start of this term, we have welcomed our brand new Year R cohort as well as two members of staff. I can confidently say that all of our new starters, both children and adults, have settled in well and are enjoying their new "home" at The Hundred of Hoo Academy.
We have already seen three celebration assemblies which help us to recognise the excellent efforts of the pupils in each class.
As a reminder, the 'Star of the Week' award (which you can find on page 5 of this bulletin) is always linked to an IB Learner Profile Attribute. We are proudly and IB World School and this means that we don't just aspire for children to have excellent academic outcomes, but also help them to develop the skills required to be successful internationally-minded, global citizens.
The learner profile attributes can be seen in the graphic below.
Hundred of Hoo Expansion - Phase 2
Today, you will be receiving a letter explaining the confirmation of Phase 2 of the Primary Academy. Since the school was built in 2017, this has always been the plan and we very much look forward to welcoming 60 new pupils into our wonderful community in September next year.
Whilst I do not have all of the details to share with you are this stage, I can let you know that the set-up phase will be starting in the next four weeks or so with building expected to start in November.
I have been liaising with Medway Council, the central team at Leigh Academies Trust, the architects and construction team since winter last year in order to ensure that safety, safeguarding and education are the key priorities whilst the project is completed and have been guaranteed that this will be the case.
As soon as I have more information to share, I will do so.
Lateness and Absence
Thank you all for your support in helping to make sure that the new 8.45am start to the school day has been successful.
From now on, if your child arrives after the gate has closed at 8.45am or when there are no staff members on duty (as this is sometimes a couple of minutes after 8.45am), we will ask you to accompany your child (regardless of which year group they are in) to the school office to confirm reasons for lateness.
Unfortunately, if you do not do this and registers have closed, we will be recording the late as an absence.
Attendance so far this year has generally been pleasing. We know that the correlation between high attendance and high outcomes is evident; however, there is also a link between higher levels of mental wellbeing and being in school. We have a wealth of services and interventions to offer pupils if they are feeling upset, anxious, cross or worried, but this relies on them being in school to be able to access them.
Our attendance procedures can be found in the Parent and Pupil Handbook via our website.
Can I please reiterate the importance of letting us know that your child will be absent from school as soon as possible. If we do not hear from parents or carers, we will conduct welfare checks at the house at our earliest convenience.
All absences until we have had contact will be unauthorised.
Unauthorised absences are reported regularly to Medway Council and can lead to fines, court appearances and in some cases, imprisonment.
By contacting us as soon as possible, we can potentially avoid unauthorised absence or misunderstandings.
