Module 1
Lunchtimes
At lunchtime, we learnt the rules and routines for the dinner hall. We need to line up and wait our turn, collect our tray and dinner. We then visit the salad bar, before sitting down. We are encouraged to use our cutlery when eating and to try and cut up our food by ourselves. We then need to clear away our own tray, cups and plates. We have adapted really well!
DM Physical Development 4-5 Further develop the skills they need to manage the school day successfully: - lining up and queuing - mealtimes. Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently. Suggested tools: scissors, knives, forks and spoons.
Lining up
Ensuring we use our manners when we collect our dinner
Visiting the salad bar
Using our cutlery
Exploring the outside area
We have enjoyed exploring the new outside area and all the physical opportunities we have out there.
DM Physical Development - Continue to develop their movement, balancing, riding (scooters, trikes and bikes) and ball skills. Match their developing physical skills to tasks and activities in the setting. For example, they decide whether to crawl, walk or run across a plank, depending on its length and width. Collaborate with others to manage large items, such as moving a long plank safely, carrying large hollow blocks
Up and over!
Ready... Set... Go!
Building
Hop, skip, jump...
PE lessons - Learning the rules and routines
In week 3 we began our PE lessons with Mr Paton from the secondary school. We began our PE lessons by learning and practicing finding a space in the hall. We needed to make sure that we weren't too close to anyone else or the walls. This will make sure that we are safe when moving. We then played different games - making sure that we listened carefully to the instructions and moved around without bumping.
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
PE lessons - Using the space and working as a pair
We focused on finding and using a space by ourselves and then with a partner. We needed to control our body through the hoop in different ways, then work with a partner to do the same but without touching the hoop!
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
Dough Disco
Every day, we take part in Dough Disco. This is a fine motor activity designed to strengthen out fingers and hands to make us better writers.
DM - Physical Development - Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently.
PE lessons - Controlling our bodies
In this lesson, we needed to control our bodies to move the cones without moving from the mat! Stretching, reaching and controlling different body parts.
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
PE lesson - Travelling
We were excited to use different PE apparatus to explore different ways of travelling.
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
Making necklaces
We used our fine motor skills to thread our own pasta necklaces, this was trickier than we thought it was going to be. We are really proud of our creations.
DM - Physical Development - Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently.
Fine motor development
Developing our fine motor skills is very important - from using tweezers, pegs, scissors, pipettes and so much more, we can strengthen our hands and fingers. This is really important for our future writing skills.
DM - Physical Development - Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently.
PE lesson - Twister
We needed to listen to the instructions to touch the correct colour cone using the given body part. We had to stretch and control our bodies carefully.
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
Module 2
PE lesson - Controlling balloons
We used balloons in PE, we needed to control them using our bodies without them floating away and without them popping! We had a great time!
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
Obstacle Course
As part of maths, we used positional language to describe our movements. We loved the obstacle course that was created for us and then began creating our own!
DM -Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
PE Lesson - Balancing and Controlling Balls
We needed to balance a ball on different parts of our body, this became increasingly difficult. We even had to try to move whilst still balancing a ball on our hand. We also explored controlling balls to move where we want them to go, i.e. through our legs, or to hit a cone.
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
PE Lesson - Keep it in your back yard
We have continued to develop our skills in controlling the ball, we played a game called 'Keep it in your backyard' where we had to return the ball.
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
PE Lesson - Controlling the ball with our feet
We have continued to develop our skills in controlling the ball, this time with our feet to aim at a target.
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
PE Lesson - Team games
We have begun to develop small team games. We played dishes and domes where we need to work as a team to put the cones either the right way up or upside down and see which team was quicker.
We also love to play the hoop game. A number is called and we need to get into a hoop with the right number of children - if we don't then we are out!
DM - C&L - Rec - Understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important. Physical Development - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
Module 3
Gymnastics
This module, our focus in PE is gymnastics. We have worked on controlling our bodies in different ways, including the use of equipment
Physical Development - Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility needed to engage successfully with future physical education sessions and other physical disciplines including dance, gymnastics, sport and swimming.
Forest School - New digging area
We LOVED the new digging area at Forest School. We used a range of different spades and trowels to dig in the ground, developing our gross motor skills.
PD - Develop overall body-strength, balance, co-ordination and agility, Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility needed to engage successfully
Module 4
Gross Motor Skills
We have developed our gross motor skills using a range of equipment outside. We have enjoyed the tyres and using them in different ways. We are more adventurous on the climbing frame.
Physical Development - Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility needed to engage successfully with future physical education sessions and other physical disciplines including dance, gymnastics, sport and swimming.
Body control
Our focus this module has been controlling our bodies both on and off equipment. The sequences and movements have got tricker, building on what we aleady know. We have shown great control over our movements.
Physical Development - Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility needed to engage successfully with future physical education sessions and other physical disciplines including dance, gymnastics, sport and swimming.
Fine Motor control
We have focused on developing our fine motor control and using this to develop our handwriting. We have used different tools to add the different screws and bolts.
Physical Development - Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently. Suggested tools: pencils for drawing and writing, paintbrushes, scissors, knives, forks and spoons.
