The Colour Monster
We listened to the story 'The Colour Monster'. We used the book to help us to talk about our feeling and why we may feel a certain way. We then coloured pictures of the colour monster, talking about our feelings while we did.
DM 3-4 - Talk about their feelings using words like ‘happy’, ‘sad’, ‘angry’ or ‘worried’. - Understand gradually how others might be feeling.

Listening and Attention
Over Module 1, we have worked on building and developing our carpet sessions. We know how to be STAR learners and understand how to listen carefully and know why listening is important. We do this in our carpet sessions when we are learning our phonics, maths, our lines of inquiry and storytime. We are always learning new words

Module 2
Comparing Festivals
This module we have been learning about a variety of different festivals and how they are similar or different in different religions or countries. We were able to talk about similarities across the festivals as well as how they are different. We have developed a range of vocabulary linked to festivals.
For example, we may have a party for a birthday, at a wedding, at a christening or for St Andrew's Day.

Partner talk
This module we have focused on what it means to be a good talker, developing our partner talk. We have 'shoulder partners' on the carpet. We are often asked to tell our partners what we think about a question or topic area. We have focused on our body language and eye contact when talking to our partner and ensuring that we are taking it in turns and responding appropriately.

Module 3
What traditional stories and story characters do we know?
We explored some of the different traditional / fairy stories we know and found some we didn't know. We discussed what we thought each story would be about. We talked about our favourite stories and identified which are traditional and which are not.

What are the common features of traditional stories and fairy stories.
We explored the different themes that are common in traditional stories and fairy tales. Over the module we will look at which features we can identify and make links.
We will continue to add to this as we explore more stories.

Sharing books in class.
We are enjoying sharing the selection of traditional tales that are available in the class with our friends and with the adults in the class. We found lots we already knew but some less familiar ones that we are keen to read and share. We are continuing with our story vote station and choosing betwen different traditional tales.

Mystery Reader
We have welcomed some of our adults as our mystery readers this module. We need to read and try and work out who it is going to be before they arrive. We love having our parents visit the classroom to share a book.

We used our knowledge of the story to retell and sequence the story, using the repeated phrases. We used our story knowledge to sequence the story on a story map.

We discussed some words which mean the same as big. We have spoken about the word big being a bit boring to use all of the time and created a bank of fancy words which all mean the same as big.

Module 4
Welcoming visitors
We welcomed visitors in the class to support our line of inquiry into life cycles. We asked questions to the parent visitors about the babies / toddler. We also shared our knowledge about growing up.

World Book Day
We enjoyed World Book Day! We came to school in our pyjamas or in character costumes. We did lots of book sharing, reading inside and outside and we loved playing guess the mystery reader!
We continued our use of the class library lending service in our 40 reads. We get to choose a book to come home with us each week to share with family at home.

Using non-fiction books
We have enjoyed using non-fiction books to find out information about minibeasts. We recorded and shared the new facts we found out. We learnt that non-fiction books tell us facts and information and how to use a contents page.
