Richard Bard Elementary School is excited to introduce a new resource from the Military & Family Life Counseling Program (MFLC). This program provides a counselor on our school campus who will be available Wednesday-Friday to provide valuable services and support to military families.
The MFLC services are designed to offer extra support to assist with the unique challenges that military families experience. The primary focus of the Military & Family Life Counseling Program is prevention, education, and counseling support.
Some of the common issues that MFLCs help with are:
Stress management and coping skills
Anger management/ conflict resolution
Deployment and reintegration issues
Feelings associated with separation and divorce
Grief and loss reactions
Self esteem and confidence
Communication skills
Social skills
All military families will be given the opportunity to consent for their children or opt-out from this free service.
FOCUS is a prevention service designed to strengthen couples and families in readiness for tomorrow. The program teaches practical skills to help families and couples feel prepared to meet the challenges of military life such as stress, injury, and other transitions.
FOCUS sessions allow families and couples to build their own story about military life experiences. This helps them to:
Build on current strengths
Feel closer and more supported
Identify, manage and discuss emotions
Use problem-solving and goal-setting to empower the entire family
Clarify misunderstandings and respect individual points of view
