Reading has continued to be popular among students at HHS. Through class collaborations, reading challenges, displays, and conversations, the library media staff has built a culture of reading in our school. During this school year the media center loaned:
2,185 physical library books
10,606 ebooks (Sora)
1,523 audiobooks (Sora)
1,562 magazines (Sora)
A study of the age of the materials in our library collection shows that the vast majority of our resources are less than 20 years old. We continually add the newest award-winning titles to our library while retaining a robust collection of classics.
The high school media center contains 13,962 total resources. The total value of this collection is $226,184.40. The average price per item is $16.20.
The media center has been a flurry of activity in 2023-24. We hosted over 725 distinct class and project visits this school year. Teachers took advantage of the wide spaces on the main floor, as well as the Instructional Space, the Digital Den, and the Explorer Room.
The Instructional Space can host an entire class and includes moveable furniture, dry-erase walls, and an AV system with a computer, speakers, Apple TV, and projector. The Digital Den offers 14 Mac computers with iMovie and Adobe Creative Cloud software, as well as a green screen and video production equipment. The Explorer Room offers a quiet space to conduct interviews, record audio, focus on social-emotional wellness, pray, etc.
Teachers can reserve these rooms by booking them on Google Calendar. Here are instructions.
The media center is excited to offer summer book checkouts. Students and staff were encouraged to grab a handful of books to borrow until August. Many walked away with an impressive stack!
Although the physical library closes each summer, the Sora digital library remains open 24/7 everyday. Staff and students are encouraged to borrow ebooks and audiobooks over the summer by visiting Sora and signing in with their Hudson Google accounts. Books can be accessed on mobile devices and computers; they sync across everything as you read or listen. Audiobooks are particularly good for road trips!
