The media center is excited to offer a new room to our students and staff in 2023. The Explorer Room is a small multipurpose room located next to Mrs. McCabe's office. The room can serve as a quiet place to decompress. It contains peaceful lighting, background music, and aromas, as well as a comfortable couch and a yoga mat.
Small groups of students can also use the Explorer Room for studying, reading, audio recording, interviews, and much more. Please stop by and see the Explorer Room for yourself. You might just fall asleep in there! The Explorer Room can be reserved by contacting media staff.
The Explorer Room is a quiet and peaceful place for students to decompress, as well as conduct interviews, make recordings, study, or read.
Our online reading platform, Sora, continues to expand its offerings to our students. Last year we introduced Sora Magazines. Sora offers over 170 digital magazines to our students and staff. We didn't stop there! This year Sora offers All-Access Comics as well.
Within the familiar Sora app, students can access over 1,500 popular comics, graphic novels, and manga. Some of the popular titles include Spider-Man, the Avengers, Stranger Things, Star Wars, Halo, and Zelda.
The best thing about these comics is that they are available for simultaneous use for all of our students and staff. There are no limits on checkouts, no holds, no overdues, etc. Sora can be accessed on the app and the web.
INFOhio is now offering free access to CultureGrams for all students in Ohio. CultureGrams provides cultural reports for more than 200 countries. Each report includes 25 categories such as Land and Climate, History, Greetings, Family, Diet, Housing, Holidays, Economy, Education, Health, and more. By clicking on the INFOhio link on the Research menu on the HHS library website, students can gain access to a world of information about every country.
Rather than emailing a weekly tech tip, this year I am going to gather educational technology resources in a social bookmarking site called Wakelet. As I stumble upon great resources, I will add them to my Wakelet account.
I've divided the resources into subject categories, as well as resources for iPads, artificial intelligence, and a catch-all category called Great online resources for all. My Wakelet account is young, but I intend to expand it significantly as the year progresses. I encourage you to follow the link to my Wakelet page and then bookmark it so you can keep updated on new resources as I add them.
The iPad offers many sophisticated accessibility features for students who could benefit from support in visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive needs. As we work with students with diverse learning needs, it is useful to tap into the built-in accessibility features of the iPad.
To learn more about accessibility features on the iPad, I recommend checking out this special Tech Learning Collective Newsletter that focuses exclusively on this topic. You can also explore the Apple Accessibility playlist on YouTube:
