Ribbons are not the same as skills on a progress report. Ribbons are awarded when a swimmer can first accomplish a skill like backfloating, getting rings from the bottom or swimming across the pool. The skills on the progress report are then marked off when they are mastered. Mastered means they perform the skill comfortably, confidently and consistently (3-4 lessons) .
