band & orchestra rentals
Quality Standards
The Hillsborough Township Public Schools has an instrument quality agreement in place that the vendors below accept in order to offer high-quality instruments to our students. Some things to keep in mind when renting an instrument:
All cooperating vendors offer a rent-to-own program.
All of the supplies you need to get started are included when you initially rent from these vendors.
Routine maintenance is typically provided.
Both vendors make weekly visits to our schools so do not worry if some are further away than others. Pick the one that has the plan that works best for your family.

Renting is easy!
IMPORTANT: Our staff highly recommends families do a 10-month rental whenever possible. This is the best deal financially and gets your child through their whole first year of playing!
Click the logos above to go right to the vendors' rental page.
You will enter your zip code and select Auten Road Intermediate School.
Please choose to have the instrument delivered to school.
All supplies you need to get started will be included with your rental! Some are included free of charge and/or you will be prompted to add some supplies to your cart because your child will need them in September.
String instruments come in scaled sizes. Click here for a brief guide on what size your child will need.
DAMAGE WAIVERS
Instruments are expensive to buy and maintain, so vendors will offer a monthly damage waiver to help cover the cost of routine and, in most cases, accidental damage. Families should consider adding this when they start their rental agreement. Here are some benefits:
Periodic repairs & adjustments are required on most instruments.
The cost of a repair can often exceed the cost of a year's worth of the damage waiver.
You may cancel the damage waiver at any time, however it can only be added at the beginning of your rental.
Homeowner's insurance does not usually cover the instrument.
Without the damage waiver, you are financially responsible for loss, theft, damage to or destruction of the instrument.
Damage waivers typically do not cover:
Consumable supplies like reeds, cork grease, bow hair, strings and drum sticks
Damage caused by intentional abuse or mischievous conduct
Mysterious disappearance (no police report)
Read your vendors' agreement carefully so you are familiar with the benefits/restrictions of their damage waivers!
USING YOUR OWN VENDOR
Families are allowed to use their own vendor; however, keep in mind that the vendors above agree to visit our schools weekly, provide quality instruments specified by the district, and provide all of the supplies needed to get started. If you choose another vendor, our staff cannot help arrange repairs or exchanges which does cause a burden on already busy parents. Please carefully consider using one of our cooperating vendors above. If you choose to use your own vendor, please contact our supervisor to obtain a copy of our Instrumental Quality Agreement. Our recommendation is to make sure that your vendor agrees to the same standards to make sure you get a quality instrument with all of the needed supplies. A list of the additional supplies your child will need with their rental for September are listed below:
*This is only if you are using your own rental vendor. The district's cooperating vendors make sure these supplies come with your instrument.*
