A philanthropist from a disenfranchised upbringing, who worked his way to the top, and gave back to his community with love and laughter. Steve Harvey became a household name through his comedy, books, and hosting the hit game show, Family Feud. He went on to use his platform for good by starting a charity to give back to his community and create a new generation of leaders, as well as supporting many others so that children like him can grow up to be successful.
Steve Harvey is a philanthropist who has been loving and caring to all, he spreads his love through his charity, as well as his messages. One contestant on Family Feud stated, “It seemed like he really wants to bless people either with his testimony and encouraging them to reach their goals, or with his comedic gift… By being on the show, we had a part in promoting that positivity”(Angela). The evidence shows that Steve Harvey’s loving nature spreads to those around him, and he tries his hardest to make the world a better place. He is also successful, as he gets his contestants to assist in spreading positivity.
Harvey’s strong will to spread goodness to the world proves his nice heart, but his accomplishments prove that he truly makes a difference. “Steve Harvey [was] honored with the inaugural ‘Man in The Mirror’ Award, which celebrates influential individuals using their platforms for good” (Najib). He was awarded for using his platform for good, and was influential enough to create a large impact, and be recognized. He has also won various awards for his entertainment. This has certified him as a household name, and he uses his name for the benefit of humanity.
Steve Harvey has wanted to help people like him, and use his voice to do so, so he founded the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation with his wife to assist, “...fatherless children and young adults by promoting educational enrichment, one-on-one mentoring and global service initiatives that will cultivate the next generation of responsible leaders” (VolunteerMatch). Steve Harvey’s kindness and influence are dedicated to helping those in need, and benefiting mankind, so that we will have great leaders of the future. Steve Harvey’s kindness helps all of mankind, and his helpful nature helps him stand out.
Steve Harvey was one of the first African Americans to have a career in the game show industry, and once he became successful he was able to use his platform and example to help other people of color to thrive as well. One example of this is his involvement with the NAACP, “An organization that promotes social equality for everyone in America, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has been an active and highly successful advocate for the African American community for over a century…Donating nearly $50,000 annually to the organization, Steve Harvey has also been a face for the organization, advocating at many of their rallies and events” (Hanson).
By being a spokesperson for this group he has shown how he used his wealth and following to give people of color the chance to be successful and have the same opportunities as others. He is proving how he not only can but is willing to help to solve some of the problems rooted in our society, and how he is trying to convince others to do the same. Steve Harvey has fought against the underdevelopment of African Americans.
Some statistics that Steve has attempted to improve include, “Of all the African American fourth graders, 58% are functionally illiterate 85% of African American children are reading below grade point level In some states, 80% of our African American boys drop out of high school before graduating 7% of all African American babies are born to a young girl under the age of 18 Every day, 1,000 African American children are arrested”(VolunteerMatch). By improving the lives of African American children, he ensures a better future for all African Americans and helps them rise to the top as he did.
Steve Harvey is known as one of the most successful African Americans in America, He was also a pioneer in the game show industry as he was one of the first African Americans to secure an important position in the game show industry and have a strong lasting effect on the industry (The Strive). He had a dream which was to be on television and to be known however one of his teachers growing up said “She assured Harvey that he would never make it onto the television or in the entertainment industry because of his severe stutter. This teacher leveled with Harvey that his dream was a pipe dream, especially considering no one in his community ever had, or would make it big in the entertainment world” (The Strive). This shows that even his teachers didn’t believe in him and he still persevered through their comments and beliefs about him. By ignoring his teachers' negative thoughts about him he developed into the man he wanted to become.

He achieved his dreams even without support from the people surrounding him and he even went past his dream and achieved more “Steve Harvey has been on television in some way shape or form every single day since that fateful day. He went on to become known to many as ‘The King of Comedy’, becoming the host of the Apollo Comedy Club, which would eventually come to be known as It’s Showtime at The Apollo. He made his way onto T.V. shows, into movies, hosting his own T.V. show, and becoming the host of the extremely popular show Family Feud” (The Strive).
The quote shows that anything is possible if you believe. Steve Harvey for example was once a nobody who had nothing to a person that everybody knows who has everything he wants while still striving for more. All that considered, this shows why one must keep trenching through the storm.
By the virtue of his soul he was able to be the man he wanted to be plus he became a beacon of light for others he also created many charities for people that struggle like him during their adolescence which further allowed him to surpass the person he wanted to become (The Strive). He also was able to use his success platform to help to open up the comedy industry for other African Americans and people of color.
Steve Harvey was able to make his way into the previously majority white comedy industry and become one of the most successful people of color in the country. He decided to use his success and wealth to help make the world more equitable and offer better opportunities for people across the U.S. Throughout his life he has offered advice and helped to inspire people to be better, all while being one of the funniest most successful game show hosts the nation has ever seen.
