It is recommended that students establish a location where they charge their Chromebook each night so it is ready for use the next day. A fully charged Chromebook will typically last 8-10 hours depending on usage. Some parents/guardians have chosen to have this in a location outside of the student's bedroom to assure it has been plugged in and to remove the possibility of late night usage.
The district does not restrict use of the Chromebook to any specific time periods due to very different family, work and homework situations. Some parents/guardians have chosen to have the Chromebook plugged in each night outside of the students bedroom if concerned about late night usage.
Though required filtering is in place on the device some parents/guardians are concerned with unsupervised use or that the compliant filtering does not go far enough. Some parents/guardians have chosen to only allow usage of the chromebook in open areas that can be supervised by an adult. They may also only allow usage of the device when the parent/guardian is at home by restricting access to WiFi or internet at home. Additional suggestions around this can be found at Common Sense Media.
Usage and monitoring of device usage when the student is not at school is at the discretion of the parent/guardian.
Many paid services are not restricted from use on district-owned devices. Access to external services, payment and use of external service, and logins and password is at the discretion of the parent/guardian.
