Early Childhood Education

Location:  Howell High School, Freshman Campus, 1400 W. Grand River, Howell, MI 48843

Course Length:  One or two year, two class period block

Prerequisites:  Successful completion of ECE I prior to taking ECE II

Satisfies:  4th Math and VPAA

This class is for students who are preparing for a career in education working with young children! Student-operated on site preschool programs and elementary classrooms provide hands-on learning experiences. Students will be introduced to occupations of preschool and elementary teacher, childcare provider, therapist, special education teacher plus many more. Students will understand and apply communication and collaboration skills, classroom management techniques and strategies, and employ fundamental knowledge of educational philosophies to enhance learner achievement. A secondary goal of the program is to develop future community leaders who will become civic advocates for public education. 

Second year students’ will work towards the National Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA).
