According to the guidelines listed below, teachers are encouraged to utilize volunteers to support their classrooms. Volunteers work as members of the educational team but under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher.
Volunteers can help with red folders and organization for teachers
Class events, field trips, and/or parties
Volunteers are not to be left with students for extended periods of time.
Volunteers should not take pictures of other students in class.
Parents must have an approved status to volunteer in any school or district event. To register as an approved volunteer, visit www.houstonisd.org/vips to complete the training and application process.
Visitor notices are posted at each outside entrance/exit. Visitors are required to report to the front office to register and receive a visitor's badge. All non-staff persons are instructed to wear a visitor's badge while on campus. Parents are notified of visiting procedures in writing and at the first PTO meeting of the year.
All students can receive free breakfast as a grab-and-go option beginning at 7:20 on Avenue B and Carpool sides once the student enters the building. As for lunch, student lunch is $3.75 unless families qualify for free or reduced lunch through Schoolcafe online. We love to have families visit students at lunch; this will be available to families starting September 3rd. We want to ensure that all students are in their routines and that everything is organized. If you decide to have lunch with your child after that date, please ensure you are VIPS cleared, as you will need to sign in at the front desk and receive a badge.
Students have 30-minute lunch periods. If your child brings lunch from home, please remember these tips:
Pack lunches with drinks and snacks that are nutritious and easy to open (that little hands can open themselves)
Have your child practice using their lunchbox and thermos before the first day of school.
Limit candy and sweets, as that is usually what a child will eat first.
Juice boxes are okay, but please, no canned soft drinks.
Help your child know what is for a snack and what is for lunch.
Students should not share food with their friends, so only pack what your student needs for lunch.
