This is a low merit example. This shows key pages which is listed below. It is really important that you are showing strong development as well as linking human scale and ergonomics.
Your task is to work through a design process to resolve a desk lamp. At level 3 it is very important to talk about the opportunities and constraints. Relate these two key words back to the brief and ensure that you notate this throughout your portfolio. For example a constraint is it needs to be pugged in to a wall and have a switch.
Gather images of lamps. Print them off and stick them on A3 page. You need to create comments on the different styles of designs and give their opinion.
Class will break down the brief on a new page. Talk about the opportunities and constraints from this.
Generate a page with at least 8 ideas of lamps. This page can be an idea generation page. Throw quick sketches together and look at forms and shapes.
Draw one or two concepts on the page. Make sure its 3D and showing different views. This can be different or the same as one from the ideas page but in more detail. You need written comments to explain your thoughts.
Same as above but for another couple of designs.
Have a chosen design and now explore development changes. Explore shape, form, finer details.
Same as above they can look at switches and cords.
Explore and show how people will use this. They need to have human scale and develop the shape to make it fit for purpose.
Generate a page that is exploring different types of bulbs and switches. reflect and evaluate multiple different types of options and the explain what would best suit your design. It is really important to think about how your light bulb or LED will be put in, if it blows how will it be replaced and the practicalities of this. When exploring switches, again evaluate what would be best for your design. If you are having a touch switch, what are the finer details of having this and how will it would. Would you need to have
Explore materials, textures and colours. Look into a range of these to show they are exploring different ideas.
Show how this will get put together. Use the information from your previous pages to help influence
Draw design in all its glory. You need an in depth final evaluation that outlines the changes, your thoughts and how you have designed your lamp with including the opportunities and constraints.
