Social Emotional - experiences that allow students to pursue personal growth and potentially establish healthy coping mechanisms and lifestyle choices.
"For my senior capstone experience, I am going to make a series of ceramic gifts for teachers who have had a big impact on me at HHS. I am taking ceramics this semester and I have found that the process of creating a work of art is a big stress reliever and brings me joy. Similarly, I have had such an incredible time at HHS and I have so many teachers who have helped me grow and succeed in ways I could've never imagined. Giving back to these teachers would be very meaningful to me as they have all helped me so much along my high school journey. First, I am going to research the history of ceramics and gift giving, as well as the bounds of ceramics (what can be made, what has been made). Next, I will plan what I am going to make with sketches. Each project will utilize different ceramic skills that I have learned in Ceramics I, or that Mrs. K will teach me separately. Over the course of the 4 weeks, I will make the projects. To sum up my project I will create a write up of my research, and a write up that evaluates both making ceramics and gift giving as social/emotional tools for me. In the end I will be able to give my projects to my teachers, and then briefly ask for them back to show them at the showcase."

"My partner and I will train for a half marathon. This project falls into the "social-emotional skills" category because it not only promotes a healthier lifestyle and physical growth, but growing an endurance and passion for running will provide for an easy and effective coping mechanism for hardships and stressors that we might face in the future. For the final product of our, we will create a blog with a "runner's guide" that outlines the best strategies we've acquired while beginning our running journey. For example, we plan on switching up our weekly running schedule and assessing which routine gave us the best results and the least pain, as well as researching and testing out the best foods/diet to excel our runs, researching the best running shoes and trying them out so that we can give our honest opinion, etc. We will most likely work collaboratively on all of these issues, but at times, one of may assign ourselves to the research aspect while another is actively testing out the results of that research (and vice versa). "Our project falls into the social emotional category because we want to give back to our community and showing our graditude and support for the places that have played a role in our lives, the lives our families, and our communities. We plan to do this through making and decorate sugar cookies in various themes, and delivering them to organizations that have influenced our lives and have provided support to the community. Throughout the week we will each make a separate scrapbook documenting our process and why we personally chose these specific places to give back to."
