School Smiles

The Browning Springs YSC recognizes that poor oral health among today's students is now a national crisis.  Each year, over 51 million school hours are lost due to poor oral health with tooth decay being the most common childhood disease. It is even five times more common than asthma!  Only 25% of Medicaid-eligible children get any kind of dental care with only 20% of the nation's practicing dental-care professionals providing care to people with Medicaid.  This means that 3 out of every 5 children are affected by tooth decay and 16 million children lack access to basic dental care.

We have partnered with School Smiles On-site Dental Care to offer dental services to students at Browning Springs.  The YSC schedules a date for the dental team to come to the school.  Students who are referred to the program by the written permission of their parent/guardian are able to see at dentist while at school and receive the adequate care they need.
