On this page, you can see an overview of resources in the HHS maker space. Below each list of items you will find images labelled with corresponding numbers. Click the blue underlined text in the lists to see detailed explanations, information, visual references and videos about the different tools when applicable.
Safety Equipment (See Image below)
Work Gloves- If working with wood or metal, work gloves can be worn to prevent splinters, scrapes and scratches.
When working with paints and finishes, latex gloves are available to keep skin safe and clean.
Safety Glasses- Most activities in the maker space require eye protection to keep safe from dust or stray materials. If a student wears glasses, specials over-the-glasses eye protection is also available. As with hearing protection, safety classes are sanitized after every student use.
Hearing Protection- Over-ear hearing protection is required for any students operating certain power tools. These are not to leave the maker space, and are cleaned with sanitary wipes after every student use.

Power Tools 2 (See Image below)
Miter Saw- makes safe and accurate repeatable "chops" or cross cuts that cut long boards down to size.
Wood Lathe- used with chisels to turn wood into round shapes like spindles and bowls.
Jointer- Our jointer is a 76" x 8" model. These are used to make flat even faces and edges on rough or curved lumber.
Router Table- puts profiles and edges on wooden projects such as rounding over the sharp edge or a table top.
Power Sanders- sanding smooths out rough wood and prepares it for finishes. In addition to hand-sanding there are random orbit sanders, belt sanders, and a disc-sander in the maker space.
Planer- trims down small amounts of wood at a time to smooth the surface and make wood the right thickness.
Grinder- sharpens metal surfaces, such as tools.
Band Saw- makes fine cuts and curve cuts in materials.
SawStop Table Saw - extremely versatile tool for cutting solid lumber and sheet goods.

Adhesives
For non-mechanical connections, different types of adhesives are available.
PVC cement- for creating a permeant water-tight bond when making structures out of PVC.
Wood glue- for assembling small and large projects where wood is bonded to other wood. This dries over a long time, allowing you to work with it for 5-10 minutes (depending on the glue type) before it begins to set. This long "open time" is useful when assembling large projects. This glue takes a long time to completely set, but it is stronger than the wood itself once it is completely dry.
Spray adhesive- for permanently mounting light sheets (such as paper or sand paper) to other surfaces.
CA Glue- also known as super glue, CA glue creates a small bond ideal for small assemblies such as models or other delicate work. Some super glues come with an activator spray to help them dry faster.
Hot glue- used for very light duty or temporary bonds on small projects, such as model work, sticking signs onto walls or for mockup assemblies.
