Mrs. Thompson-Tate challenged her 9th grade science students positively impact their local environment. These students chose to use reclaimed pallet lumber to create a recycling container for the cafeteria which would be visibly separate from the trash cans. This included using the Glowforge Pro to make the sign.
Tools used: Table saw, miter saw, speed square, tape measure, power drill, brad nailer, pocket hole jig, clamps, spray paint, paint & brushes.

Because we were using reclaimed materials, we had to determine how much usable material we had before designing. Students cut pallet wood free from the nails, cutting the top boards down to size for the back, sides and door panel. They pried the nails out of the solid lumber supports, then milled the wood to size to use for the frame.

The frame and door frame were assembled with pocket hole joinery and the sides were attached with wood glue and 18-gague brad nails.

A whole saw bit drilled the whole in the top, and the whole bin was sanded before painting.
