Welcome
This online handbook is for employers who are considering or have already offered a Placement Year opportunity to a Liverpool Hope University student.
A Placement Year is a fantastic way to expand talent pipelines. Many employers also use placement students to trial new roles within their organisation or to complete 10- to 15-month projects.
This handbook outlines the University’s requirements for the programme and serves as a guide to ensure a successful placement experience. We hope this will be a mutually beneficial partnership and look forward to working with you over the coming academic year.
Please use the navigation window on the left to explore other sections of this handbook.
If you would like to discuss creating a Placement Year opportunity at your organisation or have any questions, please contact Liverpool Hope University’s Student Futures Team at studentfutures@hope.ac.uk.
Information about the Placement Tutor:
The University assigns a Placement Tutor who will be the student’s primary university contact throughout the Placement Year. In most cases, this will be an academic actively engaged in research.
Where possible, we encourage employer-academic relationships to develop for potential future collaborations. We would appreciate any efforts from your team to facilitate this connection.
Initial Contact: The Placement Tutor will reach out to the student within two weeks of their placement start date.
Placement Visit: Where possible and economical, the Placement Tutor will aim to visit the student’s workplace at least once within the first five to six months of the placement.
Ongoing Support: The Placement Tutor will maintain contact with the student via email, phone, or Zoom, as needed. Employers are welcome to suggest additional check-ins based on their assessment of the student’s progress and needs.
In some cases, a student may begin their placement before a Placement Tutor is appointed. Until the tutor is assigned, a member of the Student Futures team will maintain contact with the student.
