The Leadership Team is the core group of senior WLC volunteers who guide the planning and execution of HOBY’s World Leadership Congress. Led by the Chair, the Leadership Team oversees every aspect of the event. Working closely with HOBY HQ, the Leadership Team ensures that WLC is inclusive, well-organized, and impactful for both ambassadors and volunteers.
The Leadership Team is made up of the Chair and four Vice Chairs, each of whom leads a major functional area:
WLC Chair – unites the entire WLC volunteer team around a shared vision for WLC. This role shapes the theme and culture of the event, empowers Vice Chairs to lead their teams, and ensures everyone works together to deliver a world-class ambassador and volunteer experience.
Vice Chair of Connections (Incoming Chair) – stewards the culture and community of WLC by leading DEIB, Media, and Volunteer Experience. This role intentionally weaves together inclusion, volunteer onboarding and recognition, and communications, while also preparing to step into the Chair role the following year.
Vice Chair of Ambassador Experience – ensures that every ambassador feels supported, engaged, and empowered throughout WLC. This role oversees Section Directors and Facilitators, guiding small-group leadership, training, and daily programming to create a consistent, meaningful ambassador experience.
Vice Chair of Operations – provides the backbone of WLC through seamless logistics and infrastructure. Overseeing housing, food service, transportation, wellness, Junior Staff, and day volunteers, this role ensures a safe, efficient, and well-organized experience for both ambassadors and volunteers.
Vice Chair of Program – brings WLC to life on stage and on schedule. This role manages curriculum delivery, activities, service projects, speakers, and production, ensuring the week flows smoothly while maintaining the integrity of the HOBY program and an engaging, life-changing ambassador experience.
Together, the Chair and Vice Chairs lead a volunteer team of nearly 100 individuals, impacting every facet of the WLC experience. Their leadership sets the tone for collaboration, accountability, and community.
