ILMEA Jazz Audition Information
23-24 Audition Materials/Requirements:
For winds, piano, bass, guitar, and vibes
Snidero Etude: This year students should prepare IND LINE. They will perform the FIRST CHORUS ONLY (Mea 1-32). (Need a copy? The books and tracks can be purchased from any number of local and online retailers)
Students should perform along with the play along track that is the rhythm section accompaniment only.
The Neighbor from Naylor - Bryan Carter
Trumpet players will be asked to play an 8-12 measure unscored excerpt that will assess their ability to play a lead trumpet line. This will not affect the overall placement for all-state. (Coming Soon)
There have been some questions on what part brass players should record(I.e. Trumpet 1 vs 2. I don't have an answer yet. I will send that out ASAP when I find out)
Specific excerpts will be released by the state in Mid-September.
Improvisation: Students will use Jamey Aebersold Jazz, Inc., Vol 6, Track 2 - Billie’s Bounce for the improvisation portion of the District Audition. Students will perform 3 choruses. Need the Track? See below…

Latin (bossa or samba)
Brushes (medium swing or ballad tempos)
Funk
Improvisation:
Drum set players will demonstrate improvisational ability by playing a medium fast swing drum solo in a 12 bar blues format. The student should play four measures of swing followed by four measures of solo, going through three choruses.
