Important Dates:

September 18th: Nomination Deadline (11:59:59pm)

September 19th: Audition Video Submission opens (12:00:00am)

October 2nd: Audition video submission deadline (11:59:59)

Week of October 14th: District Ensemble Selections Released via Nominate

November 16th: District 1 Jazz Festival at Hinsdale Central High School

Below is what will be required for the 2024 Senior Instrumental Jazz auditions:

All Winds, Vibes, Guitar, Piano, and Bass

1. 
   ILMEA Commissioned Etude (Based on Rhythm Changes // Students will need to perform with the backing track. No unaccompanied performances)

2. F Blues Improvisation (Billie’s Bounce- NO MELODY)

   1. Student should perform THREE Choruses of Improvisation along with the play along track.

3. Rhythm Changes Improvisation: Optional Honors Jazz Consideration Only

Drum Set

1.

2. Blues Improvisation

   1. Drum Set players will demonstrate improvisational ability by playing a medium fast swing drum solo in a 12 bar blues format. The student should play four measures of swing followed by four measures of solo, going through three choruses.

3. Drum Set Style Demonstration

   1. Drum Set players will demonstrate a functional approach to a variety of rhythmic studies: 1. Swing (fast or slow) 2. Latin (samba or bossa) 3. Brushes (medium swing or ballad) 4. Funk

The rhythm changes improvisation is only required for students who want to be considered for All state Honors combo/jazz band.
