Term 4 Sports Overview

A big thank you to the parents and teachers who have supported the running and organising of Hilltop School sports for 2018.

Cricket

All students will have coaching sessions run by Sport Waikato. There will be a cricket festival for Year 5-8 students on 8th November held at Owen Delaney. Teams will be put together during the next few weeks.

Hilltop School Swim Sports - Year 4 -8 students

This will be held on Wednesday 14th November at AC Baths. Please encourage your child to participate as this is a fun school event. If you can help out with the running of this event e.g time-keeping we would really appreciate this. A newsletter will come home with the students next week.

Inter-school Swimming - Year 4 - 8 students

This will be held on Wednesday 21st November also at AC Baths. The Hilltop School team will be selected from results of our School swimming sports.

Waikato Athletics - Year 7 & 8 students

Wednesday 28th November at Porritt Stadium Hamilton. Competitors will be selected from the Year 7 & 8 athletic trials. Competitors must reach the qualifying times and distances for this event.

Touch Rugby - All Students

The teams are already participating in the local touch rugby competition. Thanks very much to the coaches and managers of these teams.

Summer Hockey - Yr 7 and 8

The teams are already participating in the summer hockey competition at Taupo Hockey club. Thanks very much to the coaches and managers of these teams.

Golf Lessons

The Year 5 & 6 classes will be participating in golf lessons at Hilltop School on Thursday 8th November.

Sports News - Term 3 - 2018

We have yet another busy term of sport at Hilltop School. Thank you so much to the parents and teachers who volunteer to coach, manage and support our sports teams. We appreciate the time and effort you put into providing our students with skill sessions to prepare the children for their various competitions.

Events and dates for Term 3

Waikato/Bay of Plenty Individual and Teams Duathlon -

Wednesday 1st August Individuals and Wednesday 8th August Teams - (postponed from Term 2).

This event is for competitive Year 5-8 cyclists and runners and is held at Lake Karapiro. Information has already been sent home with the students who are interested in competing in this event.

Cross Country

The Hilltop School Cross Country will be held on Wednesday 29th August (postponement date - Thursday 30th August). A guideline of the day will be:

9.10-10.10am - Year 7 & 8 students

10.30-11.30am - Year 5 & 6 students

11.40-12.40pm - Year 3 & 4 students

1.30-2.45pm - Year 0-2 students

Taupo InterSchool Cross Country Champs will be held at Spa Park on 5th September. The first 6 place getters in the Year 4 to Year 8 races will represent Hilltop School in this event.

Waikato Cross Country Championships. This involves only Year 7 & 8 students and will be held at Te Aroha on 19th September.

Volleyball - Lunchtime volleyball sessions:

  • These will be run by Darren Tiplady, member of Taupo Volleyball Club, he will be available on a Tuesday/ Thursday lunchtime for weeks 2-10. Age groups will be mixed Yr5/6 and mixed Yr 7/8 – maximum of 30 per group

Cricket Tasters - Fundamental skills for Yr 0 - 4 ( Weeks 9/10 of Term 3)

Aims Games - Year 7 & 8 students. This tournament will take place between September 8-14th September.

Ski Academy -The students involved in the Ski Development team will be training on most Fridays throughout Term 3. We wish these students all the best for their upcoming competitions.


Sports News - Term 2 - 2018

Winter Sports -

Hundreds of Year 0 to Year 8 Hilltop students participate in winter sports this term. It is an absolute pleasure seeing so many children being involved in a team sport. Besides being fun and a great way to stay active, participation in sports helps children build social and teamwork skills. Thank you to all the parents and teachers who have kindly offered to coach and manage 2018 sports teams.

Rippa Rugby -

Year 5-6 and Year 7-8 teams will be selected to participate in the Taupo Inter-school Rippa Rugby tournament at Owen Delaney Park on Wednesday 30th May. Julie Hulena will organise the Year 5-6 teams and Nicola Murphy will oversee the Year 7-8 sides. A letter will go home to the parents of the students wishing to participate in this tournament closer to the event.

KiwiSport - During Term 2, our Year 5-8 classes will be involved in Rippa Rugby sessions run by Josh Standon from the King Country Rugby Association. All students will participate in badminton and volleyball taster sessions.

Waikato Teams Duathlon Champs -

Year 6-8 students will be on Wednesday 13th June. This event will be held at the Mighty River Domain, Karapiro.

Term 4 Sports News

This will be held on Wednesday 22nd November also at AC Baths. The Hilltop School team will be selected from results of our School swim sports.

Spirit Day

Thursday 23rd November will see Hilltop School’s inaugural Spirit Day, this event is currently being organised by one of our senior elective groups and will feature lots of events and activities to test mind, body and spirit.

Taupo Youth Town will be providing skill sessions to all classes throughout Term 3.

Aims Games

Year 7 & 8 students. This tournament will take place between 10th - 15th September.

Ski Academy

Year 5-6 and Year 7-8 teams will be selected to participate in the Taupo Inter-school Rippa Rugby tournament on Tuesday 23rd May between 9.30am-2.30pm at Owen Delaney Park. KiwiSport

Waikato Cycling Champs

Years 5-8 students. This road cycling meet will be held at Paterangi School, Te Awamutu on 17th May. Students will need a road bike and have experience with riding on open roads.

Waikato Teams Duathlon Champs

Year 5-8 students. Wednesday 31st May 2017. This event will be held at the Mighty River Domain, Karapiro.


Sports News - Term 1 - 2017

KiwiSport

During term 1 ALL classes will be involved KiwiSport hockey and netball tasters. These sessions are to encourage students to participate in these sports throughout the winter season.

Winter Sports - Registrations for netball, hockey, rugby and soccer will take place in the school hall on Tuesday 28th February. Expression of interest forms and the fees for the 2017 winter season will be given out at the end of next week. Registrations will take place between 8am and 4pm, and all codes will be represented. We are very lucky that KiwiSport are offering this service as it makes things a lot easier for families.

Hilltop House Athletics Day - The Year 3-6 athletics day will take place on 28th February (same day as winter sport registrations). All the children will be out on the field at 9am and will rotate through the various events through until lunch time. The Intermediate children will then run their athletic day between 1.30-3pm. The Year 4-8 Taupo inter-school athletic team will be selected from the results of this day. The Taupo inter-school athletic day is on Thursday 16th March at Owen Delaney Park. Year 0-2 have their athletic day in Term 4.

T- Ball - All of the Year 5 & 6 students will be participating in the Taupo Inter-School T.Ball tournament on Wednesday 12th April at Crown Park. The students will be put into class teams that their teachers will organise. They will be walking to this event. There is an after school T-Ball competition running every Wednesday starting 1st March at Crown Park. If your child is interested they can pick up a registration form from the office.

Waikato Individual & Teams Triathlon - No official dates have been announced for these events, so we will notify you as soon as we have confirmation of these (last year they were in the middle two weeks of March). These events will be held at Lake Karapiro for Year 6-8 students. This event is only for competitive students who are strong swimmers, cyclists and runners. If your child is interested in these events could you please contact Nicola Murphy by either popping into Room 18 or emailing her at nicola@hilltop.org.nz.

Waikato Swimming Championships (Year 7 & 8 students only)

This swimming meet will take place at St Peter’s School, Cambridge on the 10th March. Mrs Murphy will coordinate this event with the students and parents.

Hilltop School Triathlon

At this stage the Hilltop School triathlon is currently under review. We will be promoting our students to compete in the IronKids triathlon on the Sunday 26th February. Year 0-2 students will have their triathlon at school on 24 February at 1:45.

Lunch Time Sport

Youth Town will be providing organised lunchtime activities every Wednesday from Week 4.
