On one of my Wednesdays at internship, I was lucky enough to witness Mrs. Rye and her class having a fort day! The students brought blankets and clips to cover the tables and have a massive fort and I was lucky enough to witness all of it. The children enjoyed the fort day and they even did their work inside of the fort.
One task that I did that I enjoyed was going over the math warmups in the morning with the students. I enjoyed being up on the board and having all of the students answer the problem cause they all reminded me of the younger me. A lot of the things that the students did took me back and made me miss being a kid at Benchley Weinberger.
One of the mini projects that I did with the kids was constructing paper snakes. I made snake heads from toilet paper rolls, constructed a paper tail, and added googly eyes and a paper tongue and teeth. It was cool and the kids enjoyed it a ton. It was probably my favorite mini-project I did and I even showed it to another class.
In this photo, I am teaching the class how to make paper snakes. I enjoyed making it in front of them although I think I made it a bit confusing for them. A lot of them still had questions and when I redid it with another class I made sure to go through it very slowly with them. The part of the snake that they struggled with was the tail, they went too quick and it would unravel and it was definitely a hiccup in the process.
One of the science assignments that the students had was balancing a pencil using only a metal coil and two paper clips. As shown in the photo below this is the proper way to do it and I just thought it was so cool that they were learning about balance in such a cool and unique way.
