Over the course of the internship, my role has grown from just observing and doing small tasks, like fetching tools, to handling basic repairs with guidance. At first, I focused on learning the shop environment and safety rules, but over time, I gained more responsibility, like changing oil, checking tire pressure, and assisting with diagnostics. As I became more confident, mechanics trusted me with more hands-on tasks, making me feel like a real part of the team. 

For a high school junior interested in becoming a mechanic, my advice is to start learning early by taking automotive classes if your school offers them and gaining hands-on experience through internships or part-time jobs at a shop. Be ready to work hard, ask questions, and learn from experienced mechanics. Understanding the basics, like how engines and brakes work, will help a lot. Developing problem-solving skills and staying patient when troubleshooting issues is also important. Lastly, focus on building a strong work ethic and good communication skills, since teamwork is key in a shop environment.
