My final project was an old Jeep, around 80 years old. It ran great with an interior that needed a little bit of work and only some rust. The final product will be more polished with a replaced water pump. I expanded my technical skillset, working on an older car. It was time consuming and something I had to persevere through, which is something that happens often when working on cars. This project will positively affect the organization by increasing the value and functionality of the Jeep. Restoring older vehicles like this also shows the organization’s capability to handle unique and challenging projects, which could bring in more clients or opportunities.
I learned how to be more patient, solve problems, and pay attention to detail, especially while working on something as complicated as a car. These skills can help me in math and science, where it is mostly critical-thinking. I also realized how important it is to stay focused and finish tasks step by step, which I can apply to school projects and assignments. Seeing the results of hard work right away taught me that effort pays off, and it motivates me to stay dedicated to my studies. Finally, working with cars showed me how everything is connected, which helps me understand systems better, whether it’s in engineering, physics, or any other subject. This experience has made me more confident and eager to learn.
Being a mechanic was always something I thought about doing. Being able to actually get out there and work on cars helped me gain a better understanding of cars. It's one thing to have learn about engines and cars in theory or have fun driving them around, but actually getting familiar with them by taking them apart, fixing issues, and putting it back together was a really good experience for me. This internship helped me to confirm that this is somehting I want to keep doing, giving me the motivation to keep learning and improving.
