Play

Learning Through Play

We know from research and guidance that young children learn best through high quality play, supported by caring, nurturing adults.

In Invergarry we support your child's development, learning and wellbeing through play outdoors and indoors.

Through watching, listening to, and playing and talking together with your child, we support their learning through experiences and interactions that are tailored to their stage of development and their interests.

Indoor Spaces

We have lots of areas for your child to explore including a home corner, mark making, crafts, sand,  small world, loose parts and play dough.

Nursery Garden

Our outdoor nursery space has room for adventures with wheeled toys, gardening, loose parts, imaginative play, ball skills and much more.

Outdoor Spaces

We visit the school grounds regularly and like to go on walks in the community.  This facilitates exploring, climbing, balancing and observing nature.

Coordination

Activites to encourage those small movements and hand manipulation all help towards the writing process.

Movement

Moving and balancing  help to build muscle and core strength and enables problem solving

Play and Imagination

Role play and make believe all help to develop language and social and emotional development. Creative play such as painting, messy play and sand all benefit physical, emotional, social  and language  development

Social and Emotional

Positive social and emotional development is important. This development influences a child’s self-confidence, empathy, the ability to develop meaningful and lasting friendships, and a sense of importance and value to those around him/her. Children’s social and emotional development also influences all other areas of development.

Numeracy

Everyday activities like counting, looking at shapes, and talking about sizes enables children to develop early numeracy and maths skills.

Expression and Understanding

Early literacy means helping children develop language skills, vocabulary, self expression, a love of books and a readiness to learn.
