In 1908 a young man named Vreeland (his first name seems to be lost to history) earned Hastings High's first individual state championship when he ran the 440-yard dash in 52 seconds and defeated the field at the state track meet.
Neary 150 TIger athletes have won these championships in a little over a century of competition, averaging more than one a every year. Class of 1960 gymnast Dennis Albers [pictured] is one of the Tigers to win multiple titles.
The most recent titles have been in wrestling where a pair of brothers have won two each: Nolan and Connor Laux.
