Class of 2020

Danielle Hogan

Danielle, daughter of Rich and Mary Hogan, is currently a Senior at Hudson Falls High School and is in her third year of the Science Research Program. Danielle is involved in soccer, and basketball, key club, science club and is a secretary for the Class of 2020. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, hanging out with friends and her dog. Danielle plans to attend college to study chemistry. She is currently researching the topic, “Using Lichens as a biomonitor to detect dioxins and sulfur dioxide in wood smoke.” Danielle became interested in this topic after reading about the pollutants in wood smoke and how they affect the environment.

Eliza Hogan

Eliza, daughter of Cheryl and Bill Hogan, is currently a Senior at Hudson Falls High School and is in her third year of the Science Research Program. Eliza is a member of Roots and Shoots, and Key Club. She is also involved in varsity tennis. In her free time, she plays tennis, spends time with family and friends, walks her dog, and works at Pirates Cove Mini Golf. Eliza hopes to attend college to study biology and to enter the medical field. She became interested in her topic after reading about the ecological importance of bats in our ecosystems, and the fungus that is causing death in bats.  She is currently studying, “The Quantitative Effect of Colchicine on the Inhibitory Growth of Pseudogymnoascus destructans.”

Mikayla Washburn

Mikayla, daughter of April and Dan Washburn is currently a Senior at Hudson Falls High School and enrolled in her third year of the Science Research Program. She participates in Softball and is a member of Key Club. She likes to send her free time playing softball, spending time at the horse barn and hanging out with friends and family. Mikayla plans on going to college to study Equine Medicine. She is currently studying "The Effect of Color Worn by a Handler on the Heart Rate of a Horse."

Olivia Lewis

Olivia, daughter of Kyle and Amy Lewis, is currently a Senior and enrolled in her third year of the Science Research Program. She participates in varsity soccer and softball and is involved in key club and science club. She likes to spend her free time with her family and friends, babysitting, and lifeguarding. Olivia plans on going to college to study pediatric care. She is currently studying the “Effect of organic road salt on aquatic macroinvertebrates.” She became interested in this topic when she read an article about the negative effects road salt has on the environment.
