WHEN SHOULD YOU FILL OUT FAFSA?
You can fill out the pt. 1 of FAFSA online starting August 1 of your senior year in high school.
You can fill out pt. 2 of your FAFSA application when it opens October 1, 2025!
Be sure to apply by the March 2, Cal Grant deadline so you can be considered for this big state grant.
Your college may have earlier deadlines for school-based awards. Check with the financial aid office.
If you missed the March 2 deadline, fill out your FAFSA as soon as you can. Some federal aid is first-come, first-served. The earlier you apply, the better.
California Education Code (CEC) § 51225.7 requires a local educational agency to confirm each 12th grade pupil’s completion and submission of a FAFSA or CADAA unless the pupil is determined to be exempt or an opt-out form is completed by a pupil who is a legally emancipated minor, a pupil who is 18 years or older, a legal guardian, or parent, or a local educational agency on a pupil’s behalf.

We are excited to announce the launching of a new program at VVC that will have a positive effect on the students and families of the High Desert. VVC has decided to take the current California Promise Program and upgrade it. The California College Promise program provides community colleges with funds to waive some or all enrollment/tuition fees (not including out-of-state tuition, parking, books, or materials for courses) for a significant subset of students (i.e., first-time, full-time students who complete a financial aid application and qualify for the Promise Grant).
The VVC RAM PROMISE is better, and here is why. We are going to cover all first-time students attending full or part-time for two years regardless of whether they are eligible for the California Promise Grant or not. We are also going to cover the $23 student fees each semester for their first two years of school at VVC. The RAM PROMISE will cover the fall and spring semesters and the winter session. I have checked with over twenty California Community Colleges, and no one is offering basically free college to all first-time freshmen for two years. We are going to make it possible for all of your graduates to earn a certificate or transferable degree for the costs of books and parking passes. The ability to leave VVC with a certificate or transferable degree with no debt is a fantastic gift to our High Desert students and their families.
